In close proximity to major cities (35 minutes from Dallas on I-35E and 45 minutes from Fort Worth on U.S. 287), Waxahachie has a city-manager form of government. It successfully blends a small-town atmosphere with state of the art technology. Its rich heritage is reflected throughout the city, attracting hundreds of tourists each year. The city is serviced by two fire stations with thirty firefighters on shifts protecting approximately 40 square miles inside the city limits. The 48-member Police department is dedicated to maintaining community involvement in a joint effort toward crime prevention and reduction. The department recently received the Municipal Excellence Award from the Texas Municipal League for a city under 25,000.
