In close proximity to major cities (35 minutes from Dallas on I-35E and 45 minutes from Fort Worth on U.S. 287), Waxahachie has a city-manager form of government. It successfully blends a small-town atmosphere with state of the art technology. Its rich heritage is reflected throughout the city, attracting hundreds of tourists each year. This community of more than 20,000 has a very diversified economy.

The city is serviced by two fire stations with thirty firefighters on shifts protecting approximately 40 square miles inside the city limits. The Fire Department boasts its own training center, modern equipment, including a 105-foot aerial ladder truck, and its museum quality 1926 American LaFrance pumper.

The 48-member Police department is dedicated to maintaining community involvement in a joint effort toward crime prevention and reduction. The department recently received the Municipal Excellence Award from the Texas Municipal League for a city under 25,000.
