The first line of contact between citizens and a member of the Waxahachie Police Department is often made through the Communications Division, commonly referred to as Dispatch.

Comprised of a supervisor and 16 specially trained Communications Officers, services are provided 24 hours a day and 7 days a week.

Duties include answering 911 and non-emergency calls, as well as dispatching officers and fire personnel to various calls of service. Whether reporting a loud noise complaint or crime in progress, employees handle each call with care and efficiency.

Training includes, but is not limited to, obtaining a Telecommunications Operator Certificate as well as TCIC/NCIC and TLETS certification through the State of Texas. Communications Officers also go through a training program with the department, including operation of the Computer Aided Dispatch (CAD) system.
