GOVERNOR ABBOTT ISSUES NEW EXECUTIVE ORDER TO REOPEN TEXAS

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE – April 20, 2020 (Waxahachie, Texas) On Friday, April 17, 2020, Governor Abbott issued a new Executive Order GA-16, which updated previous Executive Orders, and laid out plans to begin re-opening of the state. This Executive Order GA-16 replaces the previously issued order GA-14, and is supported by the Waxahachie City Council’s latest Declaration.

          Included in the order is the introduction of a “Retail-To-Go” model, which allows for retail businesses that are not considered “Essential Services” to begin providing curbside pickup, shipping, or doorstep delivery, as long as strict compliance with the DSHS requirements are met.[LA1]   The DSHS requirements may be found at www.dshs.texas.gov/coronavirus. This order also states that all schools in Texas will remain closed for the rest of the school year. Also, Texas State Parks will reopen, but again, social distancing and all DSHS requirements must be practiced.

          Additionally, the Governor established a Strike Force to Open Texas, which is comprised of a team of medical professionals and public and private leaders from across the state to develop a strategy and timely to reopen Texas in the safest and most efficient manner.
