VILLARREAL APPOINTED CITY SECRETARY

VILLARREAL APPOINTED CITY SECRETARY

The Waxahachie City Council has appointed Amber Villarreal as the new City Secretary during the Council meeting on Monday, May 17, 2021. Villarreal’s appointment follows the retirement of previous City Secretary Lori Cartwright, who served the City since 1999, and the last 14 years as City Secretary.

Villarreal has worked for the City of Waxahachie for over 20 years – starting in 2000 as a VOE student worker. In that time, she has served in a variety of roles, including in the Human Resources Department, as Assistant City Secretary, and most recently as Interim City Secretary.

“Amber has been a loyal and valuable asset to the City for many years and serving in several roles. With each task she has risen to the occasion and provided excellent service to not only the Citizens, but also her peers. She is a tremendous employee and we look forward to her continued success,” said Michael Scott, City Manager.

As City Secretary, Villarreal’s responsibilities include being the official record keeper for all City records and public meetings. Duties of the City Secretary’s office include posting agendas, recording and posting minutes for City Council and all City boards and commissions, election administration, public and bid notices, open records requests, certain licensing functions, and more.

Villarreal will begin her new role immediately, and is excited to continue to serve our Citizens. “I am thankful for all the support from City Management, City Staff, and City Council and look forward to this next chapter in my life. Lori Cartwright has been a wonderful mentor and I am blessed to have worked alongside her for the last 13½ years,” said Villarreal. Amber and her husband Wally live in Waxahachie and have three children.
