SMOKE TESTING BEGINS JUNE 18, 2024

SMOKE TESTING BEGINS JUNE 18, 2024
For the next few days, RJN Group, an engineering consultant hired by the City of Waxahachie, will perform a physical survey of the wastewater collection system. The study involves opening manholes in the streets and backyard utility easements and requires the use of smoke to gain information that will later be used to repair and improve the system.

Smoke testing is used to locate breaks and defects in sewer lines. During this testing, smoke exits through vent pipes on homes' roofs and through sewer line breaks. The smoke is non-toxic, leaves no residue, and does not create a fire hazard. It should not enter homes unless defective plumbing exists or drain traps are dry.

If you have seldom-used drains and want to prevent smoke from entering your home, please pour a gallon of water into your unused drains to fill the drain trap. This will prevent smoke from entering your living areas through the drains.

Boundaries for the testing include:
North: S P Railroad
South: Dr Martin Luther King Jr Blvd.
East: Peters Street
West: Perry Avenue
