The Waxahachie City Council encourages all citizens to consider becoming actively involved in City government by serving on a City Board or Commission. Board and Commission applications are accepted at any time throughout the year; however applications must be submitted by July 31st for current year consideration.
Appointments are made by City Council in August/September each year. The effective term begins October 1 for all new and re-appointed Board and Commission members.
Applicants must:
Reside within the Waxahachie City limits (except for Airport Board)
Be willing to attend the regularly scheduled meetings of the Board and Commission

Planning & Zoning Commission
· 7 members; two-year staggered terms · Meetings: 2nd and 4th Wednesday of every month at 4:30 p.m. · Reviews and considers submitted site plans and plats; makes recommendations to City Council on Zoning Ordinance amendments, Comprehensive Plan amendments, Specific Use Permits and rezoning requests
Park Board
· 6 members; three-year staggered terms
· Meetings: 1st Thursday every other month at 3:00 p.m.
· Advises the City Council in its development and beautification of any of the parks under the jurisdiction of the city
City Cemetery Board
· 5 members; two-year staggered terms
· Meetings: 1st Thursday every other month at 8:30 a.m.
· Advises the City Council on all matters concerning the City Cemetery
Zoning Board of Adjustments
· 5 members and 2 alternates; two-year staggered terms
· Meetings: as needed
· Serves as an appeal body for individuals seeking variances to the Zoning Ordinance or to a decision made an administrative official enforcing the ordinance
Waxahachie Community Development Corporation
· 7 members and 4 Ex-Officio members; two-year staggered terms
· Meetings: 2nd Tuesday of every month at 4:00 p.m.
· Identifies and funds the Civic Center and Sports Complex projects to maintain and enhance the quality of life in Waxahachie
Ellis County Water Control and Improvement District No. 1
· 6 members; two-year staggered terms
· Meetings: As needed
· Oversees policies and projects of the Water District
Waxahachie Housing Authority
· 7 members; two-year staggered terms
· Meetings: As needed
· Responsible for operating public housing projects in compliance with the ACC and applicable regulations and procedural requirements
Midlothian/Waxahachie Airport Board
· 4 members; three-year staggered terms
· Meetings: 2nd Thursday of the month at 4:00 p.m.
· Acts on behalf of the City in the performance of its governmental functions and responsibilities to operate, plan maintain, develop, finance, promote and market Mid-Way Regional Airport
Electrical Advisory Board
· 7 members; two-year staggered terms
· Meetings: As needed
· Consider approval, denial, and/or appeals of the Electrical Code
Building Standards Commission
· 10 members; two-year staggered terms
· Meetings: As needed
· Establish minimum standards applicable to residential and nonresidential structures
Tax Increment Reinvestment Zone No. 1
· 6 members: two-year staggered terms
· Meetings: As needed
· Monitors and collects tax monies to fund redevelopment of the Tax Increment Reinvestment Zone which includes the Waxahachie Downtown area
Heritage Preservation Commission
· 7 members; two-year staggered terms
· Meetings: 2nd Thursday at 7:00 p.m.
· Assists in the preservation of historic Waxahachie through programs and projects that increase public awareness of the value of historic, cultural, and architectural preservation
Waxahachie Rodeo Board
· 7 members; 3-year staggered terms
· Meetings: As needed
· Controls the operations and activities of the Rodeo Grounds on Howard Road
Civil Service Commission
· 3 members; three-year staggered terms
· Meetings: As needed
· Secure fire and police departments composed of capable personnel who are free from political influence and who have permanent employment tenure as public servants
Waxahachie Industrial Development Authority
· 4 members; two-year staggered terms
· Meeting: As needed
· Monitors tax exempt bonds for companies in the City
Senior Center Advisory Committee
· 7 members; two-year staggered terms
· Meeting: As needed
· Provide direction as it pertains to the policies and
programs of the Senior Center
