Following the vandalism to Waxahachie City Cemetery earlier this week, our Parks and Recreation team that oversees the cemetery has gathered a preliminary list of the stones that were damaged. This is a working list and will be updated as more names and information is known. There are several stones on the list in which the name is listed as “unknown”. This could be one of several reasons – some of the stones were turned over where the name is not visible and are too heavy to move without special equipment. In other cases, the stones are well over 100 years old and are very difficult to read.
Identifying these stones is a long and tedious process, and our team is working diligently to gather as much information as quickly as possible and the list will be refreshed and published as progress is made.
